About The Facility
This is the general lost and found office under the jurisdiction of the TMPD.But not all lost and found items are collected at this facility.
In the majority of cases, when items are lost on the street or in facilities such as shopping malls, they are delivered to the nearest police station to where they were dropped off.
How to claim item
Most preferred method to claim your item is to visit the police station where your item is kept in person.Domestic shipping is possible but this method is sometimes considerably more difficult if you are not a resident of Japan, as it requires post mails and fax.
How to report item
Police stations does not accept lost item reports over the phone calls. So the quickest way to do this is visiting the nearest police station in Tokyo in person.
However, reporting to police stations outside Tokyo is meaningless as they does not have jurisdiction in Tokyo.
Online reporting is possible, but it is not practical because the process is much complicated and takes more than 24 hours to be reflected.
Storage Period
Every police station in Japan will keep lost items for THREE months after reported to police stations. After that period, the lost properties will be disposed of.
Notes
International shipments will not be accepted under any circumstances. They do not make outgoing calls to telephone numbers outside Japan.
